Alexandrous Ballard was a dancer for over 25 years dancing in companies in the US and Europe, and for the last 12 years, a highly regarded ballet teacher based in Portland, Oregon. He is a teacher of the F.M. Alexander Technique certified by Am SAT (American Society of the Alexander Technique) and is proud to be an occasional instructor of Aikikai-style Aikido at Portland Aikikai in Portland, Oregon where he holds Nidan rank.
As a choreographer, Mr. Ballard has created over 25 works for companies and schools in the Northwest region, including for Oregon Ballet Theater where he danced 7 years as a principal and Pacific Artists Ballet where is is choreographer in residence. In addition to his own choreography, he has set many classical works on schools and small companies and is especially known for his thorough, specific and comprehensive working methods in the rehearsal and class environment.
Mr. Ballard has been reviewed many times as a performer in the New York Times, the Oregonian, The Irish Times, Dancemagazine and many other publications. As a teacher he was recently lauded by Martha Ullman West, critic for Dancemagazine and The Oregonian, as a "master teacher" for his work with Pacific Artists Dance Center's Men's program. He is the owner-operator of "Alexander TechniqueNW" a private teaching practice for the F.M.Alexander Technique, also based in Portland, Oregon.
